The 10 Movies You Can Watch On NYE, instead of spending money elsewhere
If you are one of those people that hates NYE, please raise your hand. Great, I am one of them. I see NYE, as many other people, as an imposition where you HAVE to go out and have fun, nevertheless, I know this will be the reason that will eventually force me to go out. Between one glass of champagne and the other, I will probably be thinking how much I regret having spent the remaining part of my salary on a party, but "hey, let's celebrate this start of 2018 together!" they all said - whilst my brain will be thinking "F***, how many things I could have bought instead during the sales or damn it, I could have spent this money on a trip somewhere".
Hence, if all of these thoughts are part of you as well, you are still in time to pivot NYE into an epic movie night and save some money to start 2018 not with a highly negative balance. So, start calling your friends, then salt your pop corn, pop your champagne, lay back and decide which of these movies will be the ONE to start the new year with.
1. THE HOLIDAY
Yes, Christmas is over, BUT, the holiday is always a great movie. Especially if you get to lay your eyes for a few hours on the young and romantic Jude Law and have a laugh at Cameron Diaz trying to adapt to the cold English countryside.
2. LOVE ACTUALLY
This might be a dangerous movie to watch alone on NYE because it might result in you wandering why no man ever stood in front of your door with hand written messages saying that he loves you. Of course, if this happened to you - lucky you! But, if you are still watching this movie alone, then it's not a good sign, as he actually didn't love you as much as he claimed. This movie is okay, only if you are watching it in company, as it's a sweet and romantic movie to watch whilst enjoying a snuggle.
3. MIDNIGHT IN PARIS
Perfect movie to start also a discussion with your friends/loved ones, on which century you would love to live in and who you would love to meet and stroll with in Paris.
4. HOME ALONE
A movie of tradition, that can take you back to when you were 10 and help forget with a few glasses of champagne, the pile of bills you got to pay on the 3rd of January.
5. HARRY POTTER
There are endless excuses on when to watch Harry Potter, because I mean, every excuse is perfect to watch it for the 23479275982 time. Why not go for all the 7 movies on NYE night?
6. WHEN HARRY MET SALLY
A classic and funny love story to make you giggle for a few hours. Will hopefully make you arrive to the realisation that opposites do attract.
7. Notting Hill
If you are sucker for Julia Roberts, as much as I am.
8. IT'S COMPLICATED
If you want to see Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin in action (seriousluy) - this is your movie. After watching this film, your life goal will become to recreate the home that Jane (Meryl) has in the movie and especially have that private vegetable garden where she hand picks tomatoes every day. If included in the house, I also get Meryl that bakes croissant early in the mornings, my accomplishments would be done.
9. TO ROME WITH LOVE
Noticeably, I love this movie because it is set in Rome, but I also honestly think that Woody Allen has done another great job at setting funny romantic stories in the chaotic capital of Italy.
10. ANNA KARENINA
1. It will remind you of how many layers you would need to wear if you went out. 2. It's perfect if you are in search of a tragically romantic movie. 3. Lastly, this is a great film if you want to convince yourself that you can find some like Count Vronsky.
